It's Time To Learn More, Right?
This blog now begins on the first day of the first month of year 2013, and it will be about education, college, and sitting under a tree reading a book while watching others pass by. It's okay to watch the antics of others, and then try to imagine what kinds of lives they are leading, right? Oh, look, that person must be a baker. Over there, that person must be a college student (the backpack and study guides give it away).
Picking apples while I'm reading
Right here in front of me is the.... sorry, I'll move (that was a chef wanting to pick some fresh apples off the apple tree I was sitting under). The book I'm reading is what I call a "fun-to-read storybook" with lots of characters, lots of plots, and makes me use my imagination to the fullest. I can almost picture myself as part of the story. (More on that, later.)
Does anyone else do that? Picture themselves as part of a story? For example, in a far away land (imagine Fiji, or Waikiki, or the Baltic Sea) on a yacht, navigating the rough waters of the ocean. There are no mountains in sight because the land is so far away. It's just you, the boat, and a big ol' storybook. Reading and reading, and more reading. The boat is rocking back and forth on the rough Baltic Sea. Off in the distance you hear birds. Are they seagulls? Are they a type of crane? Can't tell, the sound is too distant. Droplets of rain as well as mist from the rough waters bounce on the boat, on your face, on the pages of your book. The text gets blurry from the droplets so you close your eyes, and imagine. In the book is a story of a chef making apple pie. First, the crust, then the apples. You're sitting under an apple tree, and he wants you to move because he's picking some fresh apples for the pie!
So, from the middle of some ocean, you're now in a kitchen watching, smelling, and tasting fresh apple pie made by a chef that wants you to move. To me, that's what education is about. Letting your mind be educated, while your imagination takes you to the places you want to learn about.
